PHYSICAL TRAINING
Build strength for everyday life
You might want to climb the stairs more comfortably, keep up with your grandchildren, or walk into a gym with a little more confidence.
Whatever your starting point, movement should have a place in your health journey that feels achievable.
SignPost is building a network of personal trainers and fitness professionals to help you find support for your goals and current abilities.
01 / PHYSICAL TRAINING
Give your progress more than one measure
The scale can tell part of the story. So can carrying your groceries, getting up from a chair, or doing something that used to feel out of reach.
Regular physical activity supports heart health, sleep, bone health, and emotional well-being.5 During weight loss, resistance training can also help limit the loss of lean mass.6
That is why physical training belongs in the SignPost Way: we want you to care about what your body can do as you work toward your goals.
02 / PHYSICAL TRAINING
What support can look like
Depending on the professional's expertise and services, you may be able to work on:
- Creating a realistic routine for your schedule and available equipment.
- Learning exercise technique and getting comfortable with strength training.
- Building a walking or other aerobic activity routine.
- Setting achievable goals and adjusting your plan as you progress.
- Finding accountability that helps you keep showing up.
You can begin with the abilities you have today. A useful first step may be smaller than you expect.
03 / PHYSICAL TRAINING
Choose support that fits your starting point
Look for a professional with relevant credentials and experience working with people whose needs resemble yours. Discuss your goals, exercise history, and any restrictions your clinician has given you.
If you have an injury, persistent pain, or a condition that affects exercise, your clinician can help you determine what is appropriate. A personal trainer's role is distinct from medical assessment and rehabilitation.
04 / PHYSICAL TRAINING
Movement and the SignPost Way
We want movement to become something you can keep returning to throughout your life. That might mean a gym routine, home workouts, or regular activity you enjoy.
The goal is to make progress you can recognize in everyday life, with a plan that gives you a reason to return tomorrow.
