How the prices are estimated
We start from national average retail prices: the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (August 2026) for most items, and USDA's average fruit and vegetable prices (2023, adjusted to August 2026 with the BLS fruit and vegetable price index) for the rest.
We then apply your area's price level for goods from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (2024 Regional Price Parities, where 100 is the national average). It covers all goods, not only groceries, and many smaller areas share a modeled value, so treat it as a local adjustment, not a store quote.
Your receipt will differ with your store, brands, sales, and package sizes. Whole packages cost more up front, and the leftovers carry into next week.
